Was just struggling with a very annoying bug where my Storyboard would always display “Internal error. Please file a bug.” Following the suggestion of a StackOverflow answer, I delete my derived data and cleaned the project to avail. I want to love Storyboards Apple, please make sure they work!
I think my favorite new feature in Xcode 8 is being able to control the zoom level of Interface Builder – it allows me to be pixel perfect when implementing UI.
Use the new iPhones for any of your software mockups or prototypes! A very powerful tool when combined with an iOS 10 UI kit.
UITextViews infrequently enough to forget about their custom font bug but often enough that I should really never deselect “editable” or “selectable” using the
.xib file. And it makes me mad every time!
Metrik’s remix of Subfocus’ “Turn Back Time” is one of the greatest drum’n’bass songs, take a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsrEH3U03fY
The iTunes update is a step in the right direction, I encourage you to install it.
I recently gave a talk about wire-framing at a magnificent event called “ProtoHack”, a big thank you to all the event organizers, particularly Amos for his diligence, and attendants for making it a great time.
If you’d like to read the speech and see the demos, here’s the page on my wiki.
I’m experimenting with the Computer Modern fonts of LaTeX fame on Sudophilosophical, I hope you like them!
@AppleSupport are now on Twitter. How is it that Twitter is used by the world’s governments, multinationals, and whiny teenagers and they can’t monetize it? It’s because it’s a public utility like telecom, water, and airwaves, and should be treated as such: subsidized by the taxpayer and ad-free.
YouTuber complains that YouTube own the platform he uses to express himself. Please, don’t post your content to services whose interest don’t align with yours.
When a word or phrase regularly finds its way into how we talk, I encourage finding another purely because it becomes cliche. E.g. “lessons learned” (or worse, learnings), “deep dive”, and “considered harmful.”
And if you’re a JS developer and thought you were safe from Microsoft, they’re coming for you too with TypeScript 1.8!
But before we go thinking that Microsoft is totally cool again, you should know that they’re serving full-screen ads at an OS-level on Windows 10.
I’ve found that Apple’s backup solutions have been too confusing to be reliable in the past, TJ Luoma at MacStories is having a similar experience. I recommend a hybrid approach of cloud storage and redundant HDDs.
If you’re curious where all your Mac’s space went and want a way to visualize usage more granularly than “About This Mac” allows, allow me to recommend Disk Inventory X.
It’s so odd to me that Federico Viticci can use an iPad as his principal computer. The old grouch in me thinks: window management, multitasking, and keyboard input has always been better on the Mac.
Pew say that “about half say Apple should unlock terror suspect’s iPhone.” I suspect many of that group are actually in the “don’t know” category.
I really enjoyed the monologue on the latest episode of Late Night with Seth Myers – surprisingly sharp.
Why do people set custom fonts in their emails? It’s especially frustrating when emails have small point size!
