Jaul Records is Undergoing a Rebranding

You may have noticed that Jaul Records been a little quiet lately. Well, that’s because I’ve been busy behind the scenes making some big changes to the brand! After much thought, I’ve decided to split Jaul Records into two separate entities – Pro Punk Studio, which will focus on recording and audio engineering services, and Pointless Records, which will continue to release punk and harder styles of music.

Jaul Records has always been a bit of a jack-of-all-trades by design, with a focus on both recording services and music releases. While this has allowed me to serve a wide range of needs and group the activities together, I’ve come to realize that our brand can be a bit confusing for the audience and customers. That’s why I’ve decided to make a change. By separating the recording studio and record label into two distinct entities, I’ll be better able to serve the needs of our clients and fans.

Pro Punk Studio will be our new recording studio and audio engineering service. Pointless Records will now be the record label. This split allows us to focus on what we do best – recording and releasing top-notch punk and harder style music.

So there you have it! With the split of Jaul Records into Pro Punk Studio and Pointless Records, I’m excited for the future and all the opportunities that lie ahead, and I’m confident that this split will allow me to better serve the fans and customers and continue to provide amazing punk and harder styles of music. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Mastering Pop-Punk: My first 5 star review!

Mastering pop-punkMastering pop-punk

Jaul Records’ first five-star review on Fiverr is a significant milestone for me as a freelance audio engineer. Recently, a pop-punk artist approached me looking for mastering pop-punk, and I was thrilled to work with him.

Using Ozone 10’s Master Assistant in Mastering Pop-Punk

To begin the mastering process, I used Ozone 10’s Master Assistant to generate a starting point. However, I understand that presets alone do not always provide the optimal sound. Therefore, I carefully listened to each section of the artist’s track in relation to the reference and made adjustments by ear.

Fine-Tuning the Sound

I made sure to dial back the EQ match as I thought it was too heavy handed. Additionally, I adjusted the threshold of the master compressor to match the loudness of the reference without distorting it, and also retained some of the section’s dynamics.

Careful Listening Approach

At Jaul Records, I pride myself on my careful listening approach to mastering. I believe that by listening closely to the reference track and the music I am mastering, I am able to make adjustments that result in a superior final product. This approach has been key in me receiving my first five-star review on Fiverr.

Positive Feedback for Mastering Pop-Punk

The feedback from this client was, “Great work, took some time on it, unlike some other people on Fiverr that master music and seems to just applying some compression on it or something. This guy does real work.” This review is a testament to the dedication and hard work that I put into every project that I take on.

If you’re looking for professional and high-quality audio engineer qualified in mastering pop-punk, please reach out to me on Fiverr or through my shop. Let me help you take your music to the next level. I am confident that my approach to mastering and my dedication to producing high-quality work will result in a final product that you will be proud of.

Mixing Live Audio with Ableton and Izotope

In this video, I’ll be taking you behind the scenes of my recent live performance project where I used Ableton and Izotope to capture and edit the audio. I used Ableton as my DAW for mixing and Izotope plugins for post-production. I’ll show you how I used Izotope’s RX 10 to reduce noise and improve sound quality of the recordings, and how Ozone 10 was used for mastering to create a polished and professional-sounding final product. I’ll also walk you through the process and tools that I found to be most effective for mixing and editing live audio with Ableton and Izotope. If you’re interested in recording, mixing, or mastering, Jaul Records offers these services on my website and on Fiverr. Thanks for watching!

Capturing and Editing Live Audio

I recently had the opportunity to perform and capture a live performance of Human Target at St. Vitus on December 23rd, 2022. The concert was held during a polar vortex, and although the weather was harsh, the show was a great success. The goal of this project was to edit the audio of the performance and create a full-length video to distribute on YouTube and select clips through Vevo and other music video distribution platforms. In this post, I’ll walk you through the process I used and the tools I found most effective for capturing and editing the audio of this live performance.

The sound engineer at St. Vitus was very kind and offered to output the mix from the sound desk into a USB drive. This captured mostly drums, bass, and vocals. Additionally, I used two Tascam portable recorders to capture mostly the guitar parts. While the sound desk recording was of good quality, the recordings from the Tascam portable recorders were significantly degraded, with one being totally unusable, with a lot of noise and room sound.

To tackle this issue, I turned to Izotope’s RX 10 and its “Repair Assistant” feature. This tool helped me to reduce the noise and improve the overall sound quality of the recordings from the Tascam portable recorders. I had planned to use RX 10’s “Musical Balance” feature on the output of the sound desk to boost vocals, but it ended up producing too many artifacts and it wasn’t necessary anyway. I initially thought that splitting the stereo captured by the Tascam and processing each separately would yield a superior result, but it just caused odd phasing. I had to roll back RX 10’s “de-noise” far more substantially than the auto-assistant feature desired to get a pleasing result. I had to substantially high-pass and low-pass the processed Tascam audio to basically get a guitar fader, everything else captured by the Tascam was too boom-y or shrill.

Finally, I used Ozone 10 for mastering. This allowed me to keep the bass in mono while keeping everything above around 100k in stereo, and adjust the overall sound of the recording to be about as loud as a reference track. Using Ozone 10 for mastering on the 2 stereo tracks resulted in a polished and professional-sounding final product.

The final product will be a full-length video and select clips that will be distributed through YouTube, Vevo and other music video distribution platforms. I will be working with my friend Phil from Snacks That Last Productions, whom I recently collaborated with on Jaul Records’ other band, WolfoxNJ, on the “Wolfoxmas” music video.

I would also like to take a moment to thank the other bands that played the concert that night: Vixen Maw, Hexpyre, Manul. They all put on great shows and made for an unforgettable night.

Overall, editing audio from a concert can be a challenging task, but by using the right tools and techniques, it is possible to capture a live performance and create a polished and professional-sounding final product. If you’re interested in capturing and editing audio from a live performance, Jaul Records offers recording and mixing services, also on Fiverr, so feel free to contact us for more information.

Take a listen to the end result below and let me know what you think!

Mixing on Fiverr: My First Gig Delivered

mixing on Fiverr

As an experienced audio engineer and musician, I recently had the opportunity to deliver my first mixing and mastering project for a hardcore song to a very satisfied client on Fiverr. Mixing and mastering is a crucial step in the music production process, and I was excited to use my skills and passion for hard styles of music to help bring this project to life.

In case you’re unfamiliar, mixing and mastering involves taking the recorded tracks for a song and combining them into a cohesive, polished final product. It requires an ear for detail and the right tools and software, and as someone with over 10 years of experience in the industry, I have the skills and knowledge to deliver top-quality results.

I learned a lot from working on this project, and one initial mistake I made was not properly calibrating the loudness of the track to the customer’s expectations. However, after receiving a reference track for comparison, I was able to quickly re-deliver the project with the appropriate loudness, much to the satisfaction of my client.

As a producer, songwriter, and guitarist for bands like WolfoxNJ and Human Target, I have a deep understanding of what it takes to create successful music. Whether you’re a musician or a music producer, if you’re looking for professional mixing and mastering services, I’m here to help. In general, I guarantee delivery within 7 days, and in this case, I was able to deliver the finished product in just 4 days.

If you’re interested in working with me to take your music to the next level, don’t hesitate to reach out to me on Fiverr or through my website. I’m committed to delivering high-quality results and working with you until you’re completely satisfied with the final product.

Thanks for reading! Here’s to many more successful projects in the future.
